China's terrible heat wave: Reservoirs dry up in the southwest

Due to a record drought in China, hydroelectric power plants are closing. Companies in Sichuan province, manufacturers of solar panels, cement and urea, have closed or cut production after they were ordered to limit power for up to five days.

On Wednesday, Hubei province in central China became the latest to announce an extensive weather modification program, sending planes to launch silver iodide rods into clouds to trigger precipitation.
