Virunga National Park in DRC, covering 7,800 square kilometres, has been experiencing difficulties with funds and has been on the brink of bankruptcy for the past few years. "Bitcoin mining has become the park's lifeline.

The first mining farm appeared in the park in early 2020. Nine months later, it started generating income. It got to the point where the park was generating up to $150,000 per month in the bull market of 2021.

That said, the farm at the park is environmentally friendly. The units run on green energy with near-zero emissions, and power is supplied by one of the hydropower plants on the reserve.
